Our school camp program is offered to all students in Grades 3 to 6.
Our Grade 3/4 camp is held every second year ( next camp 2020 ). Our Grade 5/6 camp is also held every second year ( next camp 2019 ).
Camps at Dana Street Primary are a fun way for students to further develop self-confidence, try new and challenging things and develop friendships in a supportive environment where pushing personal boundaries is encouraged and supported. Camps usually take place during Terms 2 or 3. Parent helpers are usually sought by our camp co-ordinators ( parents assisting on camps must hold a valid Working with Children Check ).
All students in Grades Prep to 2 take part in our annual swimming program conducted during Term 4 at the Mount Helen campus of Federation University. Students are assessed on their swimming experiences and abilities and lessons are developed around each child’s needs. Qualified Austswim staff run each session. Parents assisting with getting the children in and out of the pool must hold a current Working with Children Check.
As part of our comprehensive curriculum students take part in a wide variety of excursions and incursions.
We have affiliations with a number of local Ballarat tourist centres which provide educational programs for primary-aged children. Each year our Grade 2 and Grade 5 students take a leap back in time to the 1850’s when they attend school at Sovereign Hill.
Our teachers also plan regular excursions to enrich our curriculum including visits to the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, BioLabs in Ballarat, Bacchus Marsh and Geelong, the Ballarat City Library and many other local attractions.
Our city location allows our students to take part in walking excursions and town events. On occasions the school will provide an incursion for the students where learning experiences are brought into the school.
School Concert Program
Our school concert program is a biennial event ( to be held next in 2020 ) in which all students perform. This is a huge community event in which parents, grandparents and any other special guests get to see our students on stage, in costume, performing with their classmates. Parent involvement in costume design and prop making is always welcomed for this huge community event.
