Last week saw the highly anticipated senior athletics carnival and junior tabloid sports come to life. Students in grades 3-6 made their way to Wendouree Oval in their finest team colours, whilst the junior grades were at school, showcasing their personal best and assisting in the collection of points for their houses; Baker (blue), Spielvogel (yellow), Dunne (red) and Martin (green).
At the senior sports, the track and field feats came in leaps and bounds, with students showcasing their skills in long jump, hurdles and high jump, along with taking flight with discus and shot put and charging forward in their sprinting events.
Our prep to grade 2 students enjoyed participating in 8 events on Friday, with the egg and spoon and sack races being fan favourites. Thankfully the eggs were coloured wooden blocks and due to all the students’ practising efforts in P.E, we didn’t end up with scrambled eggs!
It was a testament to each of our students here at Dana Street Primary School in showcasing our school values of Respect, Care, Responsibility, Inclusion, Tolerance, Understanding and Excellence throughout both sporting days. Smiles were aplenty and sportsmanship was the ultimate winner.
Well done to everyone for their involvement in the carnivals, with a special mention to Mr. Spiers for all his efforts in coordinating both days. A very big thank you is also extended to all teachers, educational support staff, year 5/6 helpers and parents, for your support over both days.
